FROM USA TO CANADA
There are several reasons individuals from the United States may seek to move to Canada temporarily:
Canada Study Visa
Canada offers a favorable and cost-effective environment for studies, often attractive to Americans. This requires a study permit and may provide work options during and after the study period.
Student Work Abroad Program (SWAP)
The SWAP program allows U.S. citizens aged 18 to 20, who are enrolled in full-time post-secondary studies, to obtain an open work permit for 12 months.
Visit and Work
U.S. citizens with a valid passport can visit and work in Canada without a work permit, as long as the work is based in the U.S. and they do not enter the Canadian labor market.
Work Permits
Those from the U.S. wishing to work in the Canadian labor market need a work permit and a job offer from a Canadian employer. There are various work permit options, and we can help determine the best fit for you.
NAFTA
Under the NAFTA agreement, U.S. citizens can work in Canada without a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) in three categories: NAFTA professionals, NAFTA intra-company transfers, and NAFTA traders and investors.
